On cold winter days there is nothing better than to gather in prayer and paint our way through the snowy day! Snuggled together in the warmth of our friendships, we are loving the new format for our guild meetings–2 and 3 day practices several times each month provides us with spiritual nourishment and an increased opportunity to perfect skills in techniques and applications.
January’s lessons and lectures brought an in-depth study in the various oils used to seal icons, the “tried and true” recipes for successful oiling with egg tempera and the different degrees of polymerization and acid values of the oils. For more information to share with your guild, please visit our friends working in www.naturalpigments.com where you will find a plethora of information to increase your understanding of our chosen medium and the best properties to keep them looking beautiful for years to come. If you’d like to oil your icons during February’s sessions, please email us and we’ll tell you what’s needed. We will also have the printed information for you with regard to oils as this is an important and nearly final step of completing the icon. For those who missed January’s meeting, we will have copies of face and robe studies for you. We will continue to work on various aspects of drapery, folds and crevices along with pillow point application of facial paint. Please bring your Prismacolors and water color paper for line work and brush tips.
Currently we are working on the icons of St. Nicholas, Theotokos Tenderness, The True Vine and the completion of the beginning stages of the icon (bring icon up to gold application) for *Vladislav’s 6 day workshop, May 20–25, 2019 at the Shrine of St. Anthony in Ellicott City, MD. You are welcome to bring any icon you are working on and we look forward to helping you progress!
*The icon for Vladislav’s workshop titled “Angel of the Holy Countenance” or “Angel of Holy Silence” will be on a 15 x 20 or larger board. The image we’ve mailed to intermediate and advanced students is 15 x 20 and repeats well on a round top board though you may choose a flat board by visiting www.iconboards.com and ordering whatever board size you wish as long as it’s 15×20 🙂 To avoid delays in receiving your board, please order today by emailing Stanislav Soliyev or Elena email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
White roses stand for sympathy and spirituality–purity and innocence … Tom’s Mother passed away January 16, she was 93 years old. “Meme” Gladys Beasley was remembered in a lovely service and during the sadness which accompanies all losses of loved ones, we see a new life bloom–our great-granddaughter Jamyson Rose was born on January 22! The cycle of life continues and we thank the Good Lord for blessing us with the perfect breath of a newborn taken upon the tail of the last breath of her Great-Great Grandmother. We thank you for remembering Tom’s Mother in your prayers. Visit this link to share a thought on the site: Finkfh.com
