Twelve Days of Christmas Coming to an End … Only to Begin Again!

The Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord–Christ is Born!  As we celebrate the birth of our Savior and continue until January 7th, let us call to mind why we write icons–to the Glory of God!

We had a wonderful student icon exhibit at the Shrine of St. Anthony in December–we enjoyed approximately 800 visitors and were so busy we only took a few pictures at the end of our two days–the winner of the icon of St. Nicholas by the hand of Tatiana–Barbara Michieli!

What a wonderful time to have spent the weekend demonstrating to visitors the meaning of icons, the age old tradition of writing in the Russian-Byzantine style and the excitement of the blessed holidays in such a beautiful and serene environment-the Shrine of St. Anthony–and two more students registered 🙂

Our six day workshop with Vladislav Andrejev, Master Iconographer and Founder of the Prosopon School of Iconology is what we look forward to in the New Year!  Vladislav will come once again to the Shrine, May 20–25, 2019.  Vladislav has been coming to teach us since March, 2014 and the students registered for the workshop in May are already preparing their boards to write the icon which Vladislav has chosen–The Angel of Blessed Silence.  We are hoping his book will be published by then so we can all receive signed copies!

Fr. Eric, who is now the Director of the Shrine of St. Anthony, is registered for this workshop.  Fr. Eric is very familiar with Prosopon as he is from the Philippines and knows many of the seminary students who take icon workshops and enjoy the teachings of our beloved school from the hands of Fr. Mefodii.  Such a tiny planet we live on and in!  We are all connected through those invisible threads of our humanity, in the Image of God.

One must understand why we love our school; ALL are welcome!  Prosopon accepts students from all walks of life and religions.  Drawn by the call of iconography, all students are treated with dignity and respect.  When you  have a moment, log onto and watch the videos titled “Q+A with Vladislav Andrejev I and II and you will begin to understand why we thirst for more knowledge in practice and theory of icons.  While there are many books, DVD’s and videos that explain this practice, there is nothing like being in the presence of Vladislav.  Come and join us for the next workshop in May–the conference Room at the Shrine comfortably holds 22 students who will enjoy a week long retreat with the Master and Founder of Prosopon.  Registration forms can be downloaded and then printed to mail your deposit to attend.  Visit us on then click on the link titled “Workshops and Events” to see the form.
