When registering students for our icon workshops with Vladislav Andrejev, the question asked is … “Have you written icons before?” This question gives us the opportunity to relay the information to Vladislav so he knows what level the student is and to bring the appropriate sketch. I asked this question of the early morning caller and Wayne Hajos replied “A few.”
Obviously, we had never met and Wayne had never taken a workshop from Vladislav so he began with Archangel Michael as all students new to Prosopon start with. Such a humble man! I had no idea of the proliferation of icons this new student had created! He has single-handedly painted the entire inside of Othodox Church of St. Matthew! “A few…” indeed!
Acrylic had been the medium for twenty-five (25!!) years and eager to create the light that only comes with egg tempera, Wayne began his his journey into the world of traditional Russian-Byzantine Iconography. He is as prolific as ever–writing icons everyday, enchanted with the light from egg tempera. Wayne writes from 8am til 5pm daily.
For prayer and practice, we will be meeting at Orthodox Church of St. Matthew each Friday from 9:30 am til 3:00pm. You can see for yourself his beautiful work as you create your own. Please contact Wayne if you plan to attend the Friday icon practice gatherings. 301-928-1155
