October has been a busy month for our guild — meeting and making new friends who are interested in our beloved Prosopon School and wanting to learn to write an icon. We have found a wonderful crowd of Christians who really had no idea there was a school where they could learn this ancient practice.
Starting off with the festival at St. Matthew’s Orthodox Church in Columbia, MD and a big Thank You to Wayne and Selma for having us share their booth! Wayne is a guild member and iconographer for the past 26 years (www.waynehajos.com) and has painted all of the icons inside St. Matthew; stop by one day and look at his beautiful work!
Tatiana, also a guild member, then received an invitation to attend the Slavic Heritage Festival in Joppa, MD. We had a wonderful time there as well with a beautiful display of our Archangel Michael icon written by the hand of Vladislav Andrejev along with Tatiana’s icons.
October 17–22, 2016 is the Prosopon School 6 day icon workshop with Vladislav and Dmitri and we are very excited to once again host our beloved Master Iconographers! We invite everyone to stop by for a visit anytime during class hours–Monday through Saturday 9-5. Many of us will be burning the midnight oil to work on our icons and we serve coffee and cookies each night at 8pm. (www.prosoponschool.org)
Our October icon guild meeting will be held at the Pandola Learning Center (www.pandola.baltimore.md.us)in Baltimore on Saturday October 29, 2016 from 12 noon til 5:00pm. We will talk about our school, make a demo of Archangel Michael on paper with participation from the people in Little Italy then share a dinner at Cafe Gia (RSVP required!) Stay tuned for more fun Fall events in November–the Fall Festival at the Shrine of St. Anthony in Ellicott city, MD (www.shrineofstanthony.org)
