We are a growing group of spiritual, creative beings practicing contemplative prayer through the ancient practice of iconography in the Russian-Byzantine method of icon writing as taught by Master Iconographer–Vladislav Andrejev, founder of the Prosopon School of Iconology.
During the March, 2014 workshop with Mr. Andrejev at the Shrine of St. Anthony in Ellicott City, Md. we requested permission to form an icon guild of Prosopon students. We officially formed our guild on May 31, 2014 and under popular vote, named our group Archangel Michael Icon Guild. Archangel Michael is the first icon new students learn to write in the Prosopon School, so we felt it appropriate to name it as such. Many thanks to Matushka JoAnna Laymon for her help in propelling us forward!
Six day icon workshops taught by Master Iconographers Vladislav Andrejev and Dmitri Andreyev are held in the months of April and October unless otherwise noted (see the link titled “Workshops and Events” on the home page) A minimum of 15 students is required to hold the workshops with a maximum of 22 students.
Three day Intensives are held throughout the year and notices are posted via our site, email and social media. It is requested that 15 people be in attendance to bring Dmitri Andreyev and his expertise from which we learn many aspects of the icon writing process. We consider the Intensives as bridges to the next six day workshops! Invaluable information is disseminated and personal one-on-one attention is enjoyed.
Attending Guild Meetings is the best way to explore iconography–during the meetings one learns more about the practice of iconography and the opportunities available to you to consider if this is the “call” you’ve been waiting for!
We cordially invite anyone interested in contemplative prayer and agreeing to adopt the methods taught by Vladislav Andrejev–to join us once a month for “Prayers through Pigment” held the last Saturday of each month (unless otherwise noted) at:
The Shrine of St. Anthony
12290 Folly Quarter Road
Ellicott City, MD 21043
Held in the conference room located through the double doors to the left — directly upstairs from the chapel
Please call Mick (410) 303-2392 if you wish to become a member or would like more information. We are spiritual beings of many faiths and practices; our motto is
“If you pray and can hold a paintbrush–join us!”
