“Today we see the iconographers!” This is from my four year old grandson, Caleb–affectionately known as “Buglet.” Caleb loves icons and I wish you could hear him say “Holy Theotokos” with his slight lisp–adorable! It warms our hearts when small children learn about icons and seem to have an innate knowledge as to what they are all about. Caleb was in charge of the “kids table” at this weekends Ninth annual Mutli-Cultural Festival held at St. Matthews Orthodox Church in Columbia, MD. Heavy downpours didn’t deter the crowds of people coming to participate in this wonderful festival and people
We had a wonderful time meeting new people, talking about our school (Prosopon, of course!) watching the amazing dancers from the Ukraine, Mexico, Russia and Romania — they were all so beautiful with their smiling faces in their swirling costumes; we took videos which were posted on social media so you could get a snippet of the music and the dance.
We thank Wayne and Selma for sharing their booth with us, two of the most kind people in the world! Wayne is a guild member and works at the Center for Byzantine Material Arts in Washington, DC. Lots of iconography going on over at the CBMA as Wayne is the resident iconographer–holding classes weekly. CBMA also has iconography supplies available and holds lectures and seminars.
We loved spending the weekend talking about our school, the icons we love so dearly and spreading the word about this wonderful form of prayer. October 15 and 16 we will attend the festivities at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington, DC — please visit their website for details www.stnicholasdc.org
